Wedding Day 2 (by Z)

We found out that our flight was cancelled to Delhi this morning because of its foggy weather going down to zero vision, so were a bit surprised. Luckily we were able to book another one just a few hours later! (with much frustration on M’s part!)

We ate good buffet-style breakfast with cornflakes and 🌈🍰 (only had a bit!). As I (as in Z’s sister) was eating cornflakes, an Indian man frowned upon her, and asked if she was eating ‘Chocos’. When I denied it, he went on to explain there was great Indian food at the other little ‘stalls’ outside. Then told her to say ‘idly’ (an Indian breakfast food like a savoury rice cake) and ‘dosa’ (a thin bread that looks like a pancake with filling inside), and she reluctantly repeated. We’d been in India for two weeks already and were happy to have something different!

Later we got into our second day outfits and M & N got dressed up with hot pink turbans as part of being “Team Groom”.

After lunch, we took part in Baraat where we took a (VERY VERY loud) walk with the groom on a horse, and lit colourful fog that got on Z’s scalp. This is to represent the groom traveling to the bride’s village and being welcomed by the bride’s parents.

Later began the ceremony of the wedding, all the while the sisters of the bride (and other people) stole the groom’s shoes as tradition. Whoever has the shoes possesses the power, and the sisters are meant to get them, so the groom must give them a gift or money in return for the shoes. The duration can range for five minutes to probably an hour, or longer, like this wedding’s playful fight went for.

We eventually left for M and N to change into their fourth (!!) outfits. We were just starting dinner when we got called over to make an entrance with the groom – M had to leave his freshly gathered plate of food! We danced in behind the groom and later N got complimented on her dancing by another wedding attendee. (N note: it actually seemed sincere!)
Photos with the groom and bride were going on for hours with dinner. They used a face-detecting app, with QR codes to download the app all around, to show you every professional photo taken of you (using the face you have taken a picture of to be your profile) uploaded by the bride and groom (they’re still uploading!), and you can see others too! It was pretty cool, yet the face detecting part somehow didn’t work for M or N, so Z and I’s faces are under their names!

Our wedding experience was very amazing, and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for people that aren’t Indian. Very much recommended (but only a short one, most are 7 or 8 days 😲).
