We ducked into Scotland for a week before heading into Europe, to catch up with a few of our old Weegie (& around) friends. Too short of course, so we are heading back for August for a more thorough stay ❤️
We stayed with friends near Gleneagles and ate very well, including our first Baked Alaska. We ate this too quickly to take a photo of it but it was the biggest meringue I have ever seen – and delicious too! They took us on a walk around the Gleneagles hotel, where we watched some golf and admired a £50,000 bottle of Macallan (from a safe distance obviously!!). We had the bad timing of entering the very small shop in the hotel when the sales person was a bit bored and decided to move the bottle for cleaning (while wearing white gloves)😬

We also stumbled across a high school pipe band playing in the local high street! Such a stereotype but it was great to see.

We stopped by Bonnybridge to have a friend look over our new car and to admire his business growth. When we left Scotland he had just started it and it’s amazing to see him have an actual receptionist and staff! Alas, we did not see any UFO activity in the area.

We did join him, his partner (who N used to work with back in the day) and their lovely dogs on Loch Earn for a few hours. It was a bit rough for water sports, unless you count going out to rescue a friend whose boat had broken down.

The weather was quite warm and N even managed to catch some sun (i.e. a light sunburn) having lunch in a friend’s garden. She wore it as a badge of pride to show that there is sunshine in Scotland! 😂

We also did a bit of exploring in Edinburgh where we tried a city escape room tour, where you have to follow clues around the town. Alas, it was not that great and we ended up only getting half way. At least it was nice to walk about, though not as pretty as Paris according to Z). We spent a couple of hours in Camera Obscura (illusions and the like) to provide some light entertainment, including a walk through spinning tunnel that made us very dizzy. N had to do it twice just to be sure while M was trying not to throw up.

We also did the old town jail tour in Stirling which had a couple of jump scares and had to help Esti escape.
