Feasts with Friends

Over the past three months we have been traveling through the UK and Europe and have been lucky enough to spend a lot of time with old friends. One of the great things about this is that we get to eat really well: local specialties, amazing home cooked meals and a selection of fabulous drinks too 🥂

As this blog is public and we are not wanting to share personal details, instead we will simply share some pictures of the wonderful food & drink. Of course, we didn’t take pictures of it all – the Baked Alaska our Scottish friends served up when we first arrived will simply have to live on in our memories!

Starting in Scotland, we have a vegetable & feta tart, a wee taster of mince & tatties and a Sri Lankan feast:

Into Europe, we have Dutch and German breakfast spreads, plus some raclette (I may have put a reminder in my calendar for when we get home to purchase a raclette set!):

I have a Luxembourgian friend who is a prolific world traveler (I met her in Myanmar) and an excellent cook. (Apparently cooking is her yoga!) She had us over for an amazing meal all made by her from scratch, including ravioli, tiramisu, LOADS of cheese* and various middle eastern dishes…

*Ok, she didn’t make the cheese herself!

One of Z’s favourite meals was slow cooked pork by a uni friend (now living in Luxembourg). It just fell apart when you touched it 🤤

Most recently, in the south of France, we had roasted figs with goats cheese as a starter, then vegetarian lasagna with sun dried tomatoes, spinach and brie as main!

All washed down with a huge variety of drinks, including an impressive whisky selection, lots of local French wine including a Crémant (made just over the hill from Champagne) and our first taste of the aperitif Lillet.

Food and drink are such a big part of a place’s culture and it’s so nice to have your own personal guides – so thank you all 🙏
