Other Italian food

Obviously, one of the reasons you visit Italy is to eat amazing food! Alas, it is not always all pizza and pasta… (the Italian equivalent of sunshine and rainbows)

The pasta section in any supermarket is always huge with amazing variety compared to supermarkets we’re used to. We even found tennis racquet pasta! Not that easy to cook properly though, so strictly novelty value only.

There’s the gelato in a bread roll thing, which we were all skeptical about but M quite liked it.

And I had high hopes for these Twisties look alikes but there was very little flavour… which was really probably a blessing.

For a reason that neither our Scottish friends or we could figure out, Tennent’s was readily available all over southern Italy 🤔

But their obsession with (hot) chips was the most perplexing.

Chips wrapped in bread, served cold – yuk! I mean, everyone loves a chip butty but that’s freshly made with hot chips, not this monstrosity:

I wish I could say that was all they did with chips.

It gets worse.

Just don’t say I didn’t warn you.

This *cough* pizza goes by various names but we encountered it as “Boys” pizza. Therefore, M had to order it (apparently!)… (my apologies if you can never unsee this)

In case you were wondering: yes, it tasted as bad as it looks (not that I tried it – geez I am not that crazy) and no, he didn’t finish it.

And finally, not a bad thing, but just a strange one. Whenever you get pasta you get bread as well but some restaurants would serve it to you in a paper bag. I am not quite sure why – we were sitting down to eat so why bag up the bread as if to take away? 🤔 (Let me know if you know why this is! Yes I could just ask some AI tool but I prefer actual people)
