I managed to convince (arm twist) the kids into doing a day trip from Luang Prabang to Nong Khiaw. The trip up was predominantly by river boat, which was a very scenic and calm way to do it.

We stopped along the way to do a short trek through farm land to visit a waterfall. We passed a few curious animals along the way, including albino buffalo!
Shoes off when we reached the bottom of the “100 waterfalls”, then we scrambled up the cascades, trying not to slip. This constituted our adventure quota for the day 😂

Back on the boat, the mountains got more and more dramatic the closer we got to our destination.

More adventures the next day, starting with great views at breakfast on the rooftop of our hotel.

Having used up some favours getting everyone on the boat trip the day before, we decided to take the shortest hike to a mountain view point from Nong Khiaw. Across the bridge and up a steep track and we were rewarded with amazing views within an hour.

Back down on ground level, we grabbed a drink and some lunch before exploring a nearby cave. This walk had a bit of everything – a leap of faith across a rickety wooden bridge, magically large plant leaves by the side of the path, then an incredible cave filled with stalagmites and stalactites all to ourselves!

Great scenery!
