Esti in Java (by Esti)

This was my first time away from Japan (that I know of at least – I was born in China when I was very young so I don’t remember) and Java has some crazy traffic. Usually I sit in the back and get to play Spotto – but when motorbikes don’t count in the game it can be slim pickings!

I have been enjoying some of the street food – as long as it’s not too spicy. The skewers are scary for vegetarians like me, but they had good tempeh (fermented soy bean). I’m not a beer fan (makes me too gassy and everyone else doesn’t appreciate that!), plus I am not sure I am actually old enough. (Note to self – work out how old I am.) I did find a nice strawberry and gold leaf doughnut but I don’t remember taking any bites of it.

I’ve seen some Java sights, like attending the lantern release festival for Buddha’s birthday. Not sure who that is exactly but he throws a great party! So many pretty lights🕯️Borobudur temple is also a great spot to make friends with the bees. On hot days (which it always is – let’s be honest I haven’t sweated at all before this!), I like to look over the ancient palace bathing pools. (but not go in – too much dirty water from the humans’ filth.)

I’ve also helped with the washing and travel planning. I sometimes wonder if my new family can plan their way out of a wet lettuce leaf but I am trying to trust the process. If all else fails, I may turn to my alternative life plan of becoming a car when I grow up.

Lettuce 🥬 know what you would like me to post about next in the carrots🥕s comments 👇
