Rainbow Village

After celebrating the successful navigation of the Indonesian postal system, N and M took a walk around central Malang and across to see the nearby painted villages. First stop was at a coffee shop with a balcony overlooking the Arema Blue Village, where all the houses were painted with the same blue paint. I imagine they keep a few spare tins of paint in case they need to touch up any of the walls!

Post coffee, we walked across to the nearby bridge and lo-and-behold, on the other side of the bridge was the colourful rainbow village (Kampung Warna Warni). It was quite a spectacle to see this vibrant coloured village appear out of nowhere with its bright colours and drawings/designs scattered across the walls. Pretty cool!

We went into the “maze” of little alley ways and staircases through the village, past small shops, businesses and people’s homes. Then we reached a glass-bottomed bridge providing another great vista of the rainbow village. Wandering across and over brought more discoveries and some more artistic designs in the alley ways.

There is a small fee charged to enter the colourful rainbow village, which goes to the local community – presumably used to buy more paint!
