Our highland adventures lead us to the backpacker haven of Ella. It was tricky to get accommodation here and perhaps we didn’t look as well as we should have… M and I ended up in a “treehouse” room. Sounds quite romantic hey?
To access the treehouse you went up on the roof of the main house, past a bathroom, and then up some steep, wobbly metal steps into the tiny room. You didn’t realise how wobbly it was until someone else walked up the steps while you were in the room 😬 It was a nice view though.

With M’s tummy a little on edge (as can happen while travelling) and his dislike of heights, you may imagine his joy at having to repeatedly go up and down those stairs to the toilet 😩
We asked our host if we could change rooms and luckily she had one in the main house free the next night.
To add to the fun, the treehouse room was not properly sealed at the roof line and we had a little chipmunk visitor.

This was quite cute and we made sure to put our snacks into the kids’ room (in the main house with properly sealing walls / roof / doors / windows).
But the fun really began the next morning when a troop of monkeys visited us. They ever had little babies – cute! – until it wasn’t so cute as the monkeys became more aggressive. Clearly they were used to finding food and were quite keen to get into the room.

When we were trying to leave and there were a couple of hissing males on the balcony. Although we’d both had our rabies shots, neither of us were keen to put that to the test! Our host was clearly well accustomed to this behaviour, and came to our rescue with a big stick to scare them away.
We were quite relieved to move into the main house! However, the monkeys were still watching…

We had been booked in for four nights but decided that two was enough, luckily the host was very understanding even if booking.com was not so good.
No photos came through!
